Welcome to Politicology

I would like to thank you for visiting my site and taking a moment to read my first blog entry. I named this blog Politicology because it will focus on political theories. Living in a time when trust in journalism is at an all-time low, and when the very language of political discourse has become barriers to civil and fruitful conversations, I feel political theorists have much to contribute.

This blog addresses issues of media literacy and attempts to get to the core ideological differences underlying the controversies of our day. My hope is that by understanding the viewpoints that advocate on both sides of any controversy hold, a healthy political dialog can proceed. Examples of conflicting values that I plan to address in this blog include individualism vs. collectivism, authoritarianism vs. liberalism, multiculturalism vs. monoculturalism, and identity politics vs. interest politics. Modern politics is also driven by competing theories of justice such as distributive, social, environmental, retributive, and restorative. At some point, I plan on touching upon each.

As stated in the Politicology mission statement the approach taken in this blog is that of being evidence-driven, non-partisan, and objective. However, it does not make one partisan to comment on how one party breaks democratic norms with greater intent and regularity than another. In fact, it would be irresponsible to disregard truth in the pursuit of balance and false equivalency.

I will not limit the scope of my posts to merely analyzing what passes as news. Followers of Politicology will also read about the political concepts that run through the storylines we enjoy in popular entertainment—primarily from movies and television. My pop culture posts will predominantly reflect my tastes and cover the science fiction and fantasy genres. I make no excuses or apologies for my taste in fiction.

My goal is to write at least one post a month, so I hope you add your name to the contact form so you can be notified when new articles are posted, and check back here often. It means a lot to me that you read my blog and that you sometimes share my articles. I encourage you to comment on the posts and reach out to me if you have recommendations for what you would like to see.
